PLANS for a new 40,000ft indoor leisure complex in Tramore, which would include an indoor surfing facility, Ireland’s largest Skate/BMX arena, retail and restaurant space, have been unveiled.

Flowhouse Ireland LTD, who have exclusive rights to the Waveloch Double Flowrider technology which will create the perfect indoor wave to surf on, are lodging a planning application with Waterford County Council for the project this week. The idea for the exciting indoor leisure and retail experience is based on youth and popular culture, using Board Sports as the key driver for the project.

The purpose built leisure complex, which will be to be located at the Hydro site at the lower end of the main Promenade, intends to extend Tramore’s beach culture all year round and will also feature an exciting indoor Skate/BMX facility, which on completion will be the largest in Ireland and of International standard to attract world championship events.

The family leisure complex will also have a 120-seater restaurant/bar café with viewing area of the breathtaking Tramore bay. Retail areas will also be provided with worldwide sports clothing companies already expressing an interest in the project.

The Flowhouse project is supported by a local investor and professional management team, which on completion would directly employ approximately 30 people with further seasonal requirements in the food, beverage, hospitality and retail sectors of Tramore.

Significant research and design was undertaken by local promoters and the design team, which is led by Waterford based CJ Falconer & Associates Architects.

Speaking about the plans local promoter and brainchild of the project Mary Daniels said Tramore provides the ideal location for such a development.

“The site and location is the perfect fit for the Flowhouse concept and compliments the neighbouring businesses and local environment.”

Alternative sports including Board Sports are now a multi billion-euro industry and Flowhouse, which is made up of local directors, say that Waterford Airport and our road network will allow the company to explore a wider market which will benefit the community in Tramore.

Pending a positive planning decision construction will start in 2012.
